<body.content>

(Sports Network) - A pair of teams coming off big weekend sweeps will
square off tonight at Citizens Bank Park, where the Philadelphia
Phillies welcome the Arizona Diamondbacks for the start of a three-game
                            series.

The Phillies picked up some momentum with a three-game sweep of the
Atlanta Braves, while the Diamondbacks captured all four of their games
                            against the Houston Astros.

On Sunday, Livan Hernandez threw his first complete game in almost two
years to lead the Diamondbacks to an 8-4 win over the Astros to complete
                            the sweep.

Hernandez (5-2) was charged with four runs -- three earned -- on 11 hits
with a pair of strikeouts for his 43rd career complete game. It was the
first time he went the distance since September 9, 2005.

Carlos Quentin hit a two-run home run and Mark Reynolds added a pair of
RBI for the Diamondbacks, who notched their second four-game sweep of
the season. Arizona, which has won seven of nine overall, took four
straight in Washington from April 5-8.

The Diamondbacks start a six-game road trip tonight and are one game back
of both Los Angeles and San Diego for first place in the NL West.

Arizona sends Doug Davis to the hill tonight, and the lefty is 0-4 over
his last five starts. That includes losses in each of his last three
                            outings.

Davis pitched well last time out, though, allowing two runs on six hits
and three walks against Colorado on Wednesday, but was on the wrong end
of a 2-0 shutout. The loss dropped Davis to 2-6 on the year despite a
                            3.57 earned run average.

Davis' lone no decision during his recent losing stretch was against
Philadelphia on May 7, when he allowed two runs over six innings of his
club's eventual 4-3 victory. The lefty is 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA in five
                            career starts against the Phillies.

The Phillies, meanwhile, notched their first sweep of the year that
culminated with Sunday's 13-6 pounding of the Braves. Ryan Howard
flashed some of the power that won him the NL MVP last season, jacking a
pair of two-run homers in the win.

Jimmy Rollins doubled, tripled and knocked in two runs for the Phillies,
who have won four of their last five games and completed their first
three-game sweep in Atlanta since 1986. Greg Dobbs homered and ended
with three RBI in the victory.

Cole Hamels (7-2) was the recipient of Philadelphia's strong offense as
the left-hander went six innings, allowing three runs on six hits while
striking out eight and walking just one.

The Phillies start a seven-game homestand tonight and bring a 13-10 home
                            record into the contest.

Right-hander Freddy Garcia takes the hill for the Phillies and is 1-3
with a 4.81 earned run average on the year. Since winning his first game
in a Philadelphia uniform back on April 22, Garcia has gone 0-2 over his
                            last six starts.

He took the loss against Milwaukee on May 17, then was saddled with a no
decision on Wednesday against Florida after yielding three runs on five
hits over six innings of an eventual 8-7 victory.

In two career starts versus the Diamondbacks, Garcia has yet to post a
decision in spite of a 2.08 ERA. That includes a no decision against the
                            club on May 7.

The Diamondbacks took two of three against the Phillies earlier in the
year, though Philadelphia went 14-5 against Arizona over the previous
                            three seasons.
