| WINDSOR, England, 12 November 2003
-- The world's news agencies, news publishers and software
developers are being asked to help shape the future of
standards for
sharing
and publishing news. The International Press Telecommunications
Council is surveying news agencies and software developers
regarding their use of cutting-edge technologies and IPTC's
topic- and XML-based standards for classifying and sharing
news. The survey results will guide IPTC's members as a
new generation of text and multimedia standards are created
in 2004 and 2005.
"We know that many smaller news agencies and software
vendors cannot make the financial commitment to attend
IPTC meetings," said Walter Baranger of The New
York Times. "As a voting IPTC member, I'll be looking
to this survey to make sure that the technology we approve
is something everyone can live with."
IPTC's online survey can be found at http://www.iptc.org/survey and
will be open
until 3 December.
